This game really sucks. Not only have my roomates and i collectively spent the last year playing this game (admittedly without a memory card for the first 11 months) but we are on the 28th level with no means of seeing an end to the tunnel.
The camera views, first of all, are horrid. Noone should play this game for fear of the havoc one would wreak upon their own eyes. secondly, the "targeting system" should be called a "shoot-at-shadows-in-the-dark-even-though-i-see-the-enemy-standing-right-in-front-of-me system" it seems to lose targets at random moments and even won't target at all sometimes.
This game is really just a crummy rip-off of MGS, which btw, was much better than it's sequel, and not as good as Metal Gear for the NES.
I doubt that anyone would ever have bought this game at this point, but at the time it was the cheapest thing we saw in the store when we purchased the PS2.
Specifically this game has tormented mine and my cohorts minds for the last year, simply because such a crappy game should be easy to beat. However when lasers occupy every square foot of a room, and your controls have a margin of error of |2 ft.| it's kind of hard to get past certain levels. So we spend, 80 hours a week together trying to gently nudge the analog controllers just so we can say that we beat the most difficult and crappiest game ever put out for the PS2. In 20 years we'll be heroes.
And don't forget my cottage cheese, kenya.
This game actually reminds me of a story from the onion. Except this time the character keeps dieing, not because the controller is an eight year old, but because whoever programmed this goddamned derilect piece of trailer trash funky ass good-for-nothing-but-a-frisbee video game was an eight year old.

As I was cleaning out the junk (I never seem to get any "real" email) from my inbox today I noticed this.
I'm at my dads "Pond Shop" right now and its raining so I've got a minute to set down and get away from the fishies. I should take some pictures of the monsters he's got living here in the water. I'm sure you'd get a kick out of them.
And also I got Windows XP up and running on my home computer so expect the "SMiLEYCAM" to be back soon. Normal online times will very, but the broadcast will most likely be aired from 5PM to 11PM. Mark you calanders and set your TiVO now.

uno. i got the eminem cd last night, and the dvd is pretty good... there's an episode of the slim shady show which i didn't even know existed, there's also a movie trailer for "8 Mile" starring eminem and kim basinger (xzibit pops up too) in theaters this fall. there's even a part where he gives "fucking love" to everyone for downloading the cd early and a preview for the "all access europe" dvd that comes out june 18th.
`the eminem show actually includes all of the lyrics in the liner notes, which is something that isn't done too often these days. very cool.
dos. Has anyone seen "insomnia" and how is it?
tres. i bought a logitech/badass wingman rumblepad, which has two lovely analog sticks for my gta3 play (bangbangbang ilovescotland), which has taken most of my boring summer life the past week. thankfully i'm outtie on june 4th. "KIDS!"

As you all know, since I know you all have one, the Special Edition Memento DVD came out last tuesday. Due to certain monetary restrictions, I was unable to purchase it until Thursday. But now that I have it, I'm begining to decipher it. It is CRAZY. The menus take the form of a psychological test, and you have to remember what you have seen and havent' seen, what you have answered and haven't answered. I've played with the bonus material DVD for hours and have probably only found half of the secrets. I know for a fact that the "backwards" version of the film is on it somewhere but I haven't found it yet--I will keep looking.
Speaking of DVD's the fine folks at Criterion finally realized they could use the slim double DVD cases (i.e. Glatiator) to package their two-disc sets in. While at Best Buy thursday I located the Cri. Armageddon in a new slim case. Hopefully this means Traffic will be in a slim case. I hate those double wide things. they're stupid. I also hate the cardboard ones (i.e. JFK) the newest ones are the best (i.e. Fight Club) with the super thin clear plastic cases.
I've also been informed that not only has the Eminem release date been moved up to this coming Tuesday, that stores have actually been instructed to sell it as soon as they get it...So on Sunday or Monday, get your copy of "The Eminem Show" complete with a bonus DVD at no extra charge.

in light of my previous state of notd post recieving MASSIVE CRITICISM LIKE IF I MURDERED A BUNCH OF CHILDREN for being "too long", i will abbreviate it somewhat, as this feature is run by the person (in this case, me), for the people.
ive become disenchanted with those whole notd thing because, as an insider and attentive reader might know, or even tell you, myself and certain coworkers and one-time friends - or in the case of a certain nomadic "blade", who is fearless by nature, semi-coworker and complete stranger - have had an interpersonal and creative falling out. as a result of this, the State of NOTD report will therefore consist only of this information, as nothing else is going on pertaining to me, and i dont care about other stuff. in conclusion:

At the beginning of next month (June) some changes will be going down here at the N.O.T.D.
First of all, the Art section has been given the green light and I will be in charge of it. So anybody wanting to have stuff put up on there will have to get through me first.
Second of all, I, smiley, will be putting up a more personal version (an offspring?) of notd at the aptly addressed smiley.notd.net. I'll keep posting to this main section as well as posting to the new area.
Thirdly Project:NOTDappartment will continue with me posting pictures of a computer monitor turned fish aquarium that I have made over the past few weeks. This will be a fixture in the new appartment (that will be heavly documented at the also aptly named appartment.notd.net) once kenny and I get moved in somewhere this fall.
These are the only updates I can think of for now, but I'll keep you posted if new things develop.

i would like to take this opportunity to comment on how disgusted i am that there are so many so-called staff members posting things not pertaining to the topics outlined in the "notd staff posting outlines" handbook.
article 47-982b, and addendum 67r (written by notd's own smiley) clearly states that not only must a certain number of posts posted by any given staff member correspond with one another, i.e., follow the same theme, but they must also follow the guidelines set forth in the aforementioned article and addendum. that being that all posts must be:
a) wku-related
b) kentucky-related
c) staff member-related (non-offensive or inflammatory)
d) notd-related
e) movie review-related
all PERSONAL opinions, as in, "i think *blank*", actual or implied, are prohibited. all statements must be made basd on scientific and/or notd-endorsed fact.
also, all images uploaded to the site and placed in posts must be:
a) accompanied by a caption or
b) must be immedaitely relevant to notd and its readers.
at the risk of exceeding pre-defined post length statutes, i conclude. any further infractions of said rules and regulations will not be tolerated, and will result in a report to suitable authorites.
unless you are staff member "blade demarco", or "smiley", in which case any antics corresponding or conflicting with previously stated referrendums and statutes will be overlooked, corresponding to section 43 of the handbook, as their posting duties encapsulate activites outside of other posters' sphere of sanctioned ability, such as posting otherwise irrelevant or pointlessly inflammatory comments.
all other members will face increased scrutiny in light of their recent deviant activities, and as a result of the attacks on 9/11.

Looking for inspiration I looked around the Escapenet IRC Network (founded by my good friend Leigh Gaffney) before moving on to events.scifi.com, and quickly finding the channel #BotTestLab, which is still there. Oddly enough, I was the "third regular" for seven months there, although I never received ops there, and I arrived there on the second day the channel was there, in the morning. I also found the channel #MST3K then run by Mr. Duffy and the now dead Appleberry. RIP Appleberry. (I was even kicked out of #MST3K that same day for spamming my site there :D )

After a "lackluster" season displayed by the mens basketball team over at Lexington KY's own Transylvania University, they have struck a deal that will definatly get them back to being one of the states prime competitors. As of 10:30 PM the announcement of Josh Carrier being traded from the University of Kentucky to Transylvania Univeristy for absoulty nothing. Apparently Coash Tubby Smith has become fed up with the over-hyped "basketball player" that is Josh Carrier. This comes to no suprise to UK fans around the state, knowing that Carrier was not worth the scolarship. The only suprise is that anyone would pick up Carrier, even Tarnsy. So in conclusion, forget I said anything about Transylvania being a competitor again, this has only sunk them to a new low.

I just finished Dungeon Siege by Gas Powered Games. After registering 25 hours on this EPIC I was screwed royally. Fuck you Gas Powered Games! I don't care if the game kicked ass, I wanted a reward for finishing your shit.
And as for Steven Spielberg and his production of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, 2015 and Electronic Arts gave a more pathetic completion: "The End." What in the holy hell. I trudged through the trenches at Normandy, snuck into a Nazi U-Boat and blew it to hell, got shot up more times than Sonny Corleone, and what do I get for saving the free world from facist oppression? I've decided to imbibe myself into a drunken stupor tonight. It will be Mike's Hard, Bacardi 151, and Absolute all the way to the bottom of the bottle. I have already procured some grape kool-aid and coke. So mixing time is about. First off, I recently broke it off with my girlfriend... she's hot, but has no clue how to conduct herself in a relationship. But then, neither do I, but I have more of an idea of what not to do. Second off, i'm working a 60-hour week- one major reason as to why I have not been around here very often. And i work in dead people to boot. Right now my life just makes me feel like i need a good boot in my ass. Kenny, could you kindly comply? Regardless, I can masturbate as much as i want because the cable guy forgot his showtime trap, and you know what that means... YES!!! RED SHOE DIARIES! YEAH! I'd never actually seen them before, but apparently they're all women-empowerment stories. It sucks. When i think soft-core porn, i think of nothing but two people making love. no story, no power struggles... just two people sharing a soft sensual moment in time. BUT NO!!! THEY ALL HAVE TO BE ABOUT SOME WOMAN'S FANTASIES!!!!! Screw that.
Women are evil, as i've espoused many a time and i'm sure you're all tired of hearing it. Anyway, the Misfits were right when they said "We Are 138"... yes they were. Ultimate Spiderman 22 is out, and i must say it is close to the best issue yet, second only to the fight with Doc Oc and Kraven... I'm still waiting on the new Marvel Knight's Daredevil, but it should be at Great Escape by Wednesday...
Apparently Haven, the band i so shamelessly plugged is having managerial talks with Gary Meeks- Travis Meeks' father and manager... and it looks like they're all gonna move to Louisville as a matter of fact. Hopefully we can all get backstage passes and bitties when they thank us for the ad space.
Don't forget my XXCH3CH2CH3XX alex... i'm still waiting... for all you non-chemists that's spanish for Water of Life.

Finally, today I'm moving out of my (second) dorm room (in two semesters). The only thing I can do now is reflect on what just happened in the last 9 months. I mean this is supposed to be the "best time of my life" and all, so does it measure up to par? I believe so, but not for the typical reasons. First of all, during my first semester (at the University of Kentucky) I went in optimistic with a feeling of finally getting my own freedoms; to be truely on my own. Fast forward 4 months to December and I found myself faceing the wall. I had absoultly destroied every single class I took, and got expelled from the university. And for what? I could attribute my failure to be a productive student becuase I was working a job till midnight nearly every night, but I won't. I could attribute to partying too much, but people who knew me there would know thats not the case. So what did cause me so much trouble for me? After 5 months to think about it, I still can't tell you. Its amazing that I got accepted to Western Kentucky, and I believe that I got in only after I wrote an essay to the "Board of Reviews" (or some fancy name like that) explaining to them how I knew I'd screwed up and how they could definatly trust me to do much better the second go 'round. And somehow I managed to come out with all passing grades in a tougher schedule. In a way, I'm glad UK didn't allow me to go back. I know now that I didn't belong there, and should have never went. I know now that I can work hard to pull my self out of a bad situation, better yet, I know how far I can fall. This year has been a strange one, indeed. But I wouldn't trade it for anything.

That's right, I located this only minutes ago, however it's affects will last for hours. Yes from the genious mind of Wes Anderson comes another Criterion classic. I already have Rushmore and the Cri people did a great job on it, I'm sure this feature will prove to be just as amazing. Be sure to pick up your copy on July 9th.
Speaking of Criterion DVD's Traffic of course comes out on May 28th, so start saving up a few bucks so you can get this amazing movie. Keep in mind, however, it is a two disc Criterion....meaning it will probably retail for at least $30.00 -- well worth it.
And of course, last but certainly not least...thank you beej for your amazing review of NOTD, and for making smiley feel special, he needs the attention.

This Review was brought to my attention earlier tonight, and even thought we got a Five Star review (count em') I'd like to explain some of the "complaints"...
First of all, the year long gap in the archives, we have recovered *most* of that stuff, however, July and August of 2001 are just gone. This did include the fateful trip to Washington DC, and that just might be the explination of why they dissappeared. We are working towards getting the recovered archives back online.
Second of all the reviewer says this: "Note to the weaker-minded: There ARE pictures!" We here at NOTD.net have awesome pictures, and we're working on a section devoted to viewing them.
Lastly it says this: "...put down your issue of Stuff and run, don't walk, to NOTD."
You're damn right we're better than Maxim.

But what do I find on my return? Kenny?....gone. Lou hall?....shut down like a biznitch. T1 line?....removed from my use. And on top of all that, I have to live at home again. It's not right, it's not fair! ah, the cards we are dealt. But the NOTD staff Louisville division has dwindled down to a mere two (although never really having the majority, we did have the webmaster among our ranks. Now all we have is myself and the whore-ish dave, who was supposed to have the Louisville division Spiderman viewing get together on Saturday, which never happened. One more thing: enough with the "obviously very very busy" shit, okay? I think it's had it's run and it is officially dead. It stopped being funny long ago. I am not so sure it ever really was all that funny. But I ask the staff, let it go, let it move on to a better place, it will be better for us all. coincidentally, smiley hasn't been on much lately either. the same can be said for derder, to a lesser degree. are they all very, very, VERY busy? together? what sexual connotations does this have? i dunno. either way, smiley and i havent played any pc games together in a looooong time. i worry that maybe he's found someone else to play them with, or even worse, something else to do entirely. for if he has found something else to do entirely, then he has indubitably found someone who isnt me to do them with, because games are the only thing he and i can do together. derder doesnt play games with anyone, to my knowledge. wtf?
on an unrelated note, i found a bump on my ear, and scratched it, and now my ear is bleeding. double wtf?
as a followup to the previous statement, it's not bleeding anymore. wtf status is set back to zero. i guess.
dunno about jeff or sanborn, they're probably dead. i know i said that last time, but i feel it in my gut this time. dave seems good. hopefully the times he's spoken to me he hasnt noticed that go insane alot has been online for like two weeks.
anyone who wants to talk to me on aim will have to politely ask my permission, as everyone who isnt on my list is blocked. BLOCKED. 2 BAD 4 U. and if you wanna talk to me on icq, not only will you have to get permission to talk to me, im never on it. 2 2 BAD 4 U's.
in related news, i've been drifting through life like a piece of apathetic chocolate cake in a sea of unattentive ice cream. the days intermix and i feel like im just detachedly watching things happen. i need to get a job, or least periodically engage in physical activity instead of sitting at the computer all day everyday staring blankly at something or other, growing weaker and fatter mentally and physically with every hour. or something like that. maybe i'll get around to doing that tomorrow. actually, im planning on working out today to get some happifying fluid in my brain flowing, so that's something. and developing my physique will result in getting a high-paying job, like being a muscleman. more information on my quest to be buff as it develops.
my relationship with my girlfriend has suffered somewhat due to the me being the aforementioned apathetic cake (no relation to aitsu's cake). but we should be alright. she likes goldfish crackers, and loves her goat molly. we've been trying to figure out a way for me to move to where she lives (the northwestern territory of these united states), but circumstances are making college somewhat hard to work out, much less a place for me to live. living costs there are extraordinary, even taking into consideration the generally higher-paying jobs, at least compared to around here. seems like mininum wage is like two dollars more there. anyway, the difficulty in getting things to be worked out is kind of frustrating, since going there is my most viable ticket out of this placid hellhole i've fallen into. but maybe - just like me becoming a normal and productive human being who doesnt write a paragraph worth of whining - it'll work out tomorrow.
in general notd-related news, smiley's book (featured prominently in the last state of notd address) has not sold one copy. at all. and the warehouse storing all the copies burned down. oops.
the notd-mobile (also featured prominently in said address) was found to have been sold to us without essential parts necessary in order for it to function. examples of which are: engine, carburetor, radiator, gas tank, etc. as i recall the only things underneath the hood were several thousand rubber bands, which do not make the car run like all those wires and metal doohickeys.
our good friends at cherryfluff can take their notd plugging and shove it. i will tell you now that *this* contributor is no sellout, and doesnt need their support. for some reason i just felt like saying something bad about our good friends at cherryfluff. i dont necessarily mean what i said. right.
the concludes the state of notd address. speaking on behalf of my co-workers, thank you for your time and patronage.
I'm a tad bit hungry,...oh

good, there's a bag of super-large pretzels right next to me. STOP!
Hammer time. Yes, Located today at NOTD:north:SUBSTATION:one was an MC Hammer CD. The full cd; Too Legit To Quit. It is now in my posession and will remain so until further notice. I have a new watch. I washed my car and there is now some sort of film residing peacefully on my windsheild.
Anyone here seen The Quick and the Dead? If you have let smiley or I know if you were able to locate the infamous "Steve Raimi Brown Car" in the film. Frankly, we're at a loss, we were unable to locate it. Yes, it should have stuck out like a sore thumb since the movie is a western, pre-dating any form of vechicular transportation, but we're not giving up hope. Hopefully with the help of the truckloads of midgets MC is sending our way, we'll be able to spot the car in future viewings of the movie.

I think i've convinced kenny to add a new main feature to those little links you see at the top (News, DVD's, Archives, etc) called "The Art of NOTD", well thats a working title. i'm not sure what it'll end up to be. Anyway, you can just imagine the implications. You all know that most of the staff is an elite group of photographers, now we can put it to some good. I will be contributing drawings/art werks along with some photos. Keep checking back and tell all your friends.
gee, everyone really likes me
