Who has the fastest NOTD computer of them all? Me. Hah.
Yesterday, project "Upgrade Kenny's computer 2K2" came to an end. As my new motherboard and processor arrived at my house via Airborne Express. So I am now running an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ at 1.72641 GHz. Superfast. AND even better, I'm not using that piece of crap motherboard I had before. Yeah, you know the one, the one that had non-upgradable BIOS, so the NON-skippable RAM check took 1 second per 4 MEG of RAM...and yes, I had 512 megs of RAM...so the RAM check took over 2 minutes, and there was no way to stop it. Man-o-man I hated that thing. But alas, it's behind me...it is, sitting on the floor.
Here we have a shot of the inside of the case...under that giant hunk of aluminum sits the new processor, and up near the top of the image, if you look at the powersupply, that is an earplug you see. There was a slight vibration that caused the edges of the PS to rub together causing an annyoing little noise. So i fixed it:
Inside the beast
Here we have an illustration I drew for Mr. Sanborn trying to explain to him what I wanted to do with my USB actions. I have two front ports, and two rear ports that go in a PCI card area..but don't actually connect to the computer via PCI slot, they have cables that you plug into your motherboard...however, I only have one set of headers on the board...and I want to plug 4 ports in...so I was trying to determine if splicing the wires would be safe or not...after several heated minutes of debate with siad Californian, we still have no answers.

The grasp of NOTD is growing… We now have bases in the five most prominent cities in Kentucky: Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, Owensboro, and of course, Russellville. Yes, that is correct, folks. I have moved away from mine city to venture forth into the free world. In layman’s terms: I got a job. Yep, that’s right. I up and moved to Owensboro and am now working reconnaissance for NOTD.net during my stay. I am also closer to the central hub of our NetworkOTD in BG, where I will report in more frequently this year. Any and all visits to my wayward outpost will be appreciated. I am planning a return in the upcoming weeks' time, though, to create a new NOTrifectaD down in the RVL. Over and out.

Well ladies and gentlemen, it's back... Yup yup, school... UGG. I wish I could just tell my professors to only expect to see me at exams. But that's another story. For those of you who have been in, and those of us who have started today, I thought I'd pass along a great anecdote prooving you don't always get what you pay for (in this case, education I s'pose)... This was brought to me by our loyal reader (and all around icy hot chick) Emaline...
Emaline was engaged in a conversation with two coworkers about the health hazards of smoking (all three participants are smokers from my understanding). The identity of the other two participants shall be hidden to protect the innocent...
Server A: "Man, I just hate to see pregnant women smoking cigarettes"
Server B: "Yeah, I know what you mean... I hate to see pregnant women in bathing suits"
Emaline: (Exits scene with dumbfounded look on her face, unable to believe what she had just heard.)
Now folks, you can truly see the stupidity in this, can you not? And Server B pays for an education? I would demand a refund IMMEDIATELY!!!!! How does one corrolate pregnancy, smoking, and bathing suits????
Ugg, welcome back kiddies. Don't be dumb, and if you're going to be dumb, don't open your mouth, ok?

I went to Walmart and bought a copy, expecting to return the Amazon copy to Walmart when I got it. Well, the Amazon copy arrived today as well, so, now I have to take it back to Walmart on Thursday when I go pick up a new gun barrell and a new magazine.
2. HA, I got a 3.3 Megapixel Sony Cybershot KENNY! Now you can't complain about my crappy digicam pictures... HA, HA HA, HA HA HA!!!!

Weekend Update with Jimmy Fallon & Tina Fey
Jimmy Fallon: And now, it's time for "Women's News".
Tina Fey: Thank you, Jimmy. As a mother of two, which I am not, I worry about the lack of positive role models for today's young girls. For example, Britney Spears caused controversy last month when she wore this skimpy outfit at MTV's Video Music Awards. Critics called the outfit inappropriate and say it's just another example of Hollywood sexualizing young girls. But I say, ladies, give it up. Britney's ass looks good. Look at that ass. That is a cherry bomb. You gotta look at that thing through a hole in a paper plate. Britney, in about five years that whole area is gonna blow, so enjoy it now. Have it photographed as much as possible. Rub it with fine oils and liniments. You will miss it when it's gone. And, as for whether or not those are breast implants are not.. Britney was on our show last year, I worked with her.. and, to me, her breasts felt completely real.
Jimmy Fallon: What did you say? you said they "felt real"?
Tina Fey: No.

This will be of particular interest to Dave, Kenny, Smiley, myself, and Emaline, but, here goes!
(drum roll please)
I am proud to announce to the world that despite a full year sentence w/ one Suzanne H, CARL T ARTHUR has recovered his soul. He is no longer a shitty shady person...
CARL ARTHUR IS BACK TO THE WAY WE KNOW AND LOVE HIM!
I've been doing three days of field research on this subject (I'm in Ashland right now) and Carl is Carl once more.
This just goes to show that you can't keep a good thing down forever.
Carl sends his love and appologies to all those mentioned above, and he says he'll come visit.
Good to have you back Carl.

Last night, as I was attempting to sleep, I realized that I had forgotten to make a phone call. So I reached over to the little table next to my bed, felt around in the dark for a pencil, felt the tip to see if it had adequate lead, then proceeded to feel around some more for paper. I found a piece, which I estimated to be--based on size and texture--a sales receipt. I then proceeded to write myself a note--in the dark mind you--reminding me to make the phone call today. Well now that nearly 24 hours have passed, I have still not made the phone call, BUT I did come up with something to post about, so it's really a non-issue now.
So I started thinking about the word "phone." When was this word developed? Who in the world made the decision that it would not be spelled "fone?" In fact, who first decided that "ph" should even sound anything like "f"? Wait, forget that, I don't care WHO I'm more interested in WHY... why was "F" suddenly not good enough to make the "fff" noise? How on earth could anything else be better at what it does...when that in fact IS what it does...that's ALL it does, it makes the "fff" noise; this is why we have "F". I don't understand. I just don't.
You know what's really amazing? The fact that "F" even sounds like what we know "F" sounds like. Written Language has to be one of the most amazing inventions EVER. Not only did someone, or some group of people have to develop it character-by-character, symbol-by-symbol. They also had to convince the rest of civilization that this new invention was a good idea. They had to teach everyone. The commitment involved in such and undertaking has yet to be matched in my opinion. It truly is amazing what we today take for granted. The fact that I can write this, the fact that you can read this, and see the exact same thing that I see, and understand exactly what I want to say...all without me saying a word.

(Mia Wallace) I've known about the Cobra since Derek opened it.
(Vincent Vega) You know Derek?
(Mia Wallace) I've known Derek going on six years now.
(Vincent Vega) No kidding? Derek and me like buddies.
(Mia Wallace) So are Derek and I.
(Vincent Vega) This is blowing my fucking mind. I mean I practically lived at the Cobra.
(Mia Wallace) When I'm in Amsterdam, I literally live at the Cobra. I stay in the house with Derek and Petra.
(Vincent Vega) You *stay* at the Cobra?
(Mia Wallace) My picture's on the wall.
(Vincent Vega) Which picture?
(Mia Wallace) Umm, you know the photos Derek has behind the bar? Well there's one of Derek between two girls wearing baseball jerseys. Petra's the one with the baseball cap, and the girl in the cowboy hat is me.
(Vincent Vega) That's you with the cowboy hat? So you're the one in the cowboy hat. Jesus Christ. It's things like this that makes me realize how small the world is.

An ISP serving the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut has taken a stance against the RIAA.
"Starting at midnight on August 19, 2002, Information Wave customers will no longer be able to reach the RIAA's web site. Information Wave will also actively seek out attempts by the RIAA to thwart this policy and apply additional filters to protect our customers' data."
"The placement of this policy is not intended to hamper the RIAA's piracy elimination agenda or advocate Internet piracy, but to ensure the safety of our customers' data attached to our network from hackers or corporate espionage hidden by the veil of RIAA copyright enforcement."

With the starting of some schools around the country, so begins a new season of our regions beloved game: Basketball. And what better basketball team to follow than Lexingtons own Transylvania University.
This season will see the "improvement" of adding two "All-Region" players. (what region? Who knows.) But as anyone who has seen last seasons stats will tell you, they have no where to go but up. (And how)
We here at notd.net have a history of Transylvania University stories and we strive to continue our traditions. Heres a picture to entertain you.

Much like this image, transys shooting stats last season were... well, frozen.

OK, excellent. Someone doesn't like NOTD. In fact they hated it enough to take the time to sign the guestbook and not identifiy themselves. That's some real dedication to something you can't stand. Normally when I find a site I don't particularly enjoy, I take full advantage of a few fancy bonus features Microsoft decided to build into their snazzy browser. These "features" include, but are not limited to: the "back" button; the "close" button--commonly known as "the X"; the "home" button. There times even, when I actually take the time, and effort to physically type in the URL of a site I know I can enjoy.
So next time you, " - " I believe you said your name was, next time you find your way to NOTD--which actually should never happen due to your hatred of the site--feel free to use any of the above mentioned features that were so expertly placed into your friendly neighborhood browser.

Now, as you can see here, I have successfully charted the grossness of ones body against time on, a normal day, and a sick day. We need to keep in mind here that a normal person should probably shower around a stink index of about 80 or 85... 94 would be the absolute maximum for any given day. If you happen to be camping, I can see going until about 200. I haven't done research into that quite yet, though. So as you can see, the average human showers about once a day by my approximation. (there can be extenuating circumstances). Now when one is sick, as I am, said person can become very grimy at a nearly exponential rate. I figure that by the end of the day, I will have showered 6 times. That is fucking ridiculous. Do you know how much time that takes and how much soap I get in my eyes??? Someone needs to do something about curing illnesses for this very reason right here. Hell, I could be sleeping and getting better rather than taking a shower every 3 hours because I have a fever. Not to mention how i'm gonna have to wash my sheets when all of this is over. That's all for now.

Well, I've beent threatening to do this for some time now...
Most of you are familiar with my zealot-like hunger for completing SETI@Home work units...
well...
I created an NOTD.NET user group today which can be found HERE.
For the uninitiated, SETI@Home is a program to allow the SETI (Search for Extra Terestrial Inteligence) to analyze MUCH more data than would be otherwise possible. Users can download a program that will download and analyze chunks of data for the SETI team and then return the results to them.
If you are doing SETI@Home presently, join the NOTD.NET team! If you are not currently running SETI@Home but are interested in doing so, visit HERE.
If you are just too excited to start crunching SETI workblocks and you just want to get the program and start going, click HERE to get the windows version.
If you do download and start running it, don't forget to join the NOTD.NET team!

yeah
anyway, a bunch of stuff's going on, and it would take too much effort to keep you, the notd reader, fully abridged. despite this, it is my duty as notd staffer to try, and this is a duty that i and my coworkers would agree that i take very seriously. to aid me in my quest i shall utilize the literary tools of vagueness and brevity, deftly combined into a sort of "bregueness" that will result in us all being able to go and get a ham sandwich and a glass of milk much sooner than otherwise. also, i will utilize greymatter's abilities of inserting hyperlinks to images into certain words that i type to maximize efficiency as much as possible without using popup windows, as we would all agree that popups are intrusive. furthermore, i cant seem to make them work. on to the news.
last monday i got my wisdom teeth (visual representation shown here) removed, which was quite the ordeal, what with needles and drills and chemicals and shovels involved. the more gruesome details are best left to the imagination, but this was the end result. my mouth isn't really that swollen, but the stitches make it so that giving dave head is usually an unpleasant experience for the both of us. only a couple more weeks, puddin pop.
in other news, everyone else has done some stuff, and the secret staff chat room has seen a good deal of use these past weeks, given various controversies instigated by me and heavens knows who else. i have authorization from our beloved webmaster to provide the readers at large with a recreation of its general appearance at this point, which can be viewed here). as you can see, there is reason why we here at notd have been somewhat high-strung as of late. which leads me to comment on the new trend among the peoples of the earth nowadays, having pictures taken of oneself with "notd.net" written on themselves via a temporary marker or lipstick. even our elderly are getting into the proverbial act (seen here), albeit thankfully not writing anything on risque parts of their shriveled, ghastly bodies. but as society itself tumbles and crashes around our ears, so do my hopes that we will be spared the oncoming plague of elderfolk pornograpghy. but that's an issue best left to the future.
in conclusion, i dunno, sanborn's dumb. stay in school

And I want every poster, reader and passer-by to answer this in the comments. I want real answers here people....
Now the scenario is this: There are two variables-
A Cowboy

And
A Pirate

No weapons, barren wasteland, nothing to use, and a fight to the death... Who wins????
There are only a handful of right answers, and all the right answers have to be the one that I have, so really there is only one right answer. Fire away, but with no weapons.

And while the comment storm continues below, I'm going to post a link to a true American hero. He's a porno patriot. OCEAN CITY, Maryland (CNN) -- A self-proclaimed Web warrior says he enlisted in the United States' war on terror by mounting an incursion into an Internet site said to be run by al Qaeda. From his beachfront home, Jon Messner uses his keyboard as a weapon against the enemy's site -- first reported by CNN four months ago -- that posts statements from high-ranking al Qaeda members. CNN reports
Also, I tried the Pepsi Blue today, and I doubt anyone else but TRUE die-hard Crystal Pepsi fans have noticed, but I believe there's a small hint of the Crystal Pepsi, God rest it's soul, inside every fusion Pepsi Blue drink. Just a small hint, a small gesture by the alchemy soda people at Pepsi, telling everyone that Crystal Pepsi, the only good thing Pepsi ever did, is not yet dead, and it will rise again. http://crystalpepsi.captainmike.org/

That's right, I'm fresh off of a weekend of serious LAN action. Smiley and I were up in the LEX playing counter-strike with about 40 of our friends so that was all good. In the words of some it was "off the fosheazy scale" whatever that means. I'm not exactly sure how that scale works, but I'm guessing that being off of it is a good thing
So, anyway I got this in the mail today. Am I awesome or what? Yes. Not only did I get it today, I got it for only $32. Yes. That's $2.99 + tax cheaper than Best Buy.
Here are some other shots of my nice new addition to my DVD collection:

Thanks to The Register, I was made aware of a new bible available on the internet. Over the years, there have been many attempts at publishing Bibles in easy to understand versions, sometimes with the inclusions of illustrations to make things more clear. Today, I think I found the easiest to understand of them all. The Brick Testament is the retelling of the Bible with the use of Legos for illustrative purposes.
My favorite part is the Circumcision...

Russellville Super Post

On Monday, July 29, 2002, the Russellville-Lexington-Louisville Trifecta (otherwise known as the NOTrifecta) was perfected as it came into being that Kenny, Smiley, Derek, Jeff, and myself were all in one spot at one time. I had never met Derek or SMiLEY in person before, nor Kenny's mother; they were really cool, but I wish that the circumstances might had been different. As it stands, I'm not sure how I feel about posting this about how "cool" my trip to Russellville was, but I'm sure it'll all work out.
Beware: this post is extrememely long. In synopsis: Kenny's family are very friendly people, especially his mother who welcomed me although she probably had no idea who i was. Mexican food is better in Russellville than in Louisville. Everything is bigger in Russellville, including lines, mexican food, and tires. Also, smiley and derek aren't nearly as bad as they sound on the internet. lol.
Sunday, July, 28, 2002 -- Jeff and I both decide that our duty as NOTD'ers who don't live extremely far away calls us to Russellville on Monday, July 29, 2002. Plans are made. Procedure is followed. At approximatley 9:35 p.m. I stop by the Guzzle and Stop and pick up supplies: 1)Cheesy Poofs 2)Cherry Clearly Canadian and 3)Grape Clearly Canadian.
Monday, July 29, 2002 -- I perform a quick glance at my cd's to ensure the maximum choicage in music. Pack a change of clothes. Call Jeff. Jeff gives me the "Go." Pick up Jeff. At this point, the trip is like any other where you happened to go to a small town to see people you have never met. Ok, so it's not really like most trips. But, soon after engaging in a merge and landing on I-65 S, the situation became more and more engrossed.
On the way down, we're listening to a bevvy of music, Goldfinger, Blood Brothers, Tenacious D, Punk Compilations... the whole works... at 103 miles to Bowling Green, We hit the odometer to reset it. (that mile rememberer thing. It remembers miles, unlike a clock which only remembers minutes.) Somewhere between 50 and 70 miles we run across packets of semis verging on taking over the world. I saw this one truck that was eating babies. I swear to God. Of course, Jeff and I, the Super-NOTD'ers that we are, decide we shall rid the world of the semis. Only then, our Arch Enemy, a van only known by it's Floridian License Plate and "Band Pride" sticker in the back window, lunges toward us. Our quest to topple the giants of the interstate takes a back seat to a more pressing matter. Weaving in and out of traffic trying to get around the erratic-driving Band Pride Van, we consume gallons and minutes. Finally we weave out of the last pocket of semis, and I step on the gas. On the straightaway, at about 95 MPH, suddenly, THUNK... Ka-CHINK!
"What the fuck was that?" I turn to Jeff as puzzled as he is... Then it dawns on me: 2 months ago I was in an auto accident which tore my front right hubcap to shreds. It was merely hanging on by a few pieces of plastic. I'm guessing that 95 miles per hour was enough to cause it to rip out and free itself from worldly constraints. Well, the hubcap goes flying, leaves a scratch on the door, and may or may not have hit the van. regardless, it was time for more cheesy poofs and a clearly canadian.
We accidentally take the Scottsburg exit at Bowling Green and end up in the downtown area. I know we're in deep shit, cuz Jeff doesn't recognize a goddamn thing. He knows we're in deep shit, cuz I got the directions off Yahoo.
We get followed briefly by the Sherrif and Deputy (presumably of Bowling Green, hopefully of Nottingham).
We make our way out to the highway and gain our bearings. Yes, that's right, we're on our way to Russellville. Jeff's phone goes into CST just before blacking out at the Warren County border. Now we're really screwed, cuz my directions go to the funeral home, and Jeff can't quite remember how to get to Kenny's house. We head down 9th street once we arrive, which is presumably the main road in Russellville. However, Main Street is barren. For some reason today, the entirety of 9th street is shut down. That's right folks, they're repaving the street in 102 degree weather in the middle of the day. Yeah. We drive up and down what we can of 9th street for about 20 minutes and then remember how to get to kenny's house. We arrive and pull in behind what we believe to be a White Lincoln Town Car. It was actually a champagne Toyota Avalon.
KristiKreme now wishes to be mentioned, and as she wishes so I command.
We see a gentleman rise from the car and go in the back entrance. We follow. We see "Animul: The Sequel" and know for certain that this is the correct house. We walk in through the back door and surprise Kenny. Smiley is at the computer hijacking all sorts of nudey porn stuff off the internet. Sinner. Everyone and their relatives from Maryland offer us food. [see that sounds really funny, being as it's like that old adage, "Everyone and their sister", but really... the relatives were all from Maryland]. We all chill at Kenny's place for a while, and then Kenny has to change. I would have stayed and watched, but smiley and jeff dragged me off. Plus I was driving.
So we went over to Smiley's place for a while. There was some ebaying going on, a lil' guitarage and some Gameboyage as well. Soon, we got hungry. So we headed out to a mexican place, Sol Aztecas. This place was run by real mexicans. It was really surprising to see mexicans in a small kentucky town. Anyway, Jeff and Smiley both got Chicken Quesadillas, i believe, Jeff with Fries and Smiley with Mexican Rice. I ordered a taco salad. beef. The tortillas chips were the best i have ever had. I think they might have had a little tortillas god or something that bestowed upon them these chips. Much like the Gyro sauce from Mt. Olympus. Anyway, I feel like Santa Claus after we eat, cuz i'm rubbing my stomach so much. I could have gone without eating for a week. It was awesome. Aside from the fact that I just know that i'm gonna fart at the funeral home or something embarrassing.
At this point, we decide it's time to give Derek a little look-see. I tell the other two to stay in the car while i go around back and knock on the door to surprise him, but no, the fuckers have to get out and mill around because "it's too hot in the car. kids have died like that." jesus... you can't wait 2 minutes. So derek sees them, and surprises me by opening the door just as i'm about to knock on it. Apparently derek had to go shower, so we left. On the way back to smiley's, i turn on the bypass. What do I see before mine eyes? A semi-tire on the side of the road. "Get it" "WTF?" "GET OUT AND GET IT!!!" We load this thing in my trunk and go to smiley's.
We change, watch a lil' Baywatch, Pam Anderson era, and then proceed to the funeral home. We spend quite a bit of time at the funeral home... Smiley and I have a debate on how old one of the girls there is. He says she's a freshman or sophomore... I said she's a junior or senior (we're talking high school of course). Shenea shows up and distracts us for a moment. We'd been waiting for the line to go down so that we could let Kenny know that we were leaving, but apparently Kenny knows *everyone* in Russellville. So we figured that he would figure it out. We head back to kenya's pad and smiley once again commandeers the computer downloading this and that. We have sandwiches and cake. Yum.
We decide to head home at about 8 o'clock. Yeah, that's right we got nabbed by the CDT. what a bitch. So we're not gonna hit town till 11:30 EDT. anyway, a massive storm is over Louisville at the moment and jeff and I are debating whether or not we will die upon arrival. The lightning coming off of this storm was purely amazing. We could see the entire cloud nearly the entire way home and the sheer energy coming off of it was earth shattering. However, we were able to subdue the beast with an amalgam of 80's New Wave and a big fat tire in the back of my trunk. And they laughed when i grabbed the tire. Once we're within 10 miles of Louisville we notice that the Fuzz is out in full force. We see two cars get pulled over within a minute of eachother. We run into two cop cars guarding limbs and trees that had fallen as a result of the storm. After I dropped Jeff off, in the 15 minutes drive from his house to mine, I see 3 cops. Ricockulous.
So I get home, unload the tire, and get on the internet. What is the first thing Kenny says? "The girl in the pink was a High School Sophomore." Mucho props to Smiley, but damnit if she didn't look pure senior from the back. Oh yeah, i met Ravy and Derek's mom too. That was at the funeral home. All in all, it was a tiring day to say the least, but, Russellville is definitely an alright town in my book.
I'll have pictures of what I did with the tire soon enough.
Did I mention that it was around 125 degrees that day?
I love you, kenya.

overheard at work: "uh yeah, hi, i'm calling to let you know that i think i just ran a script that crashed your server..."
yeah, that's not made up. and it was our end communicating with them, not the other way around... so we're the bad guys. or the poor scripters. same difference.
